O.V. Test:

A Descendant of William Test
of Clermont Co, Ohio

By
Glenn A. Test

O. V. Test has been listed in various documents as O.V., O. U., Obey V. and Oakely V. I found a source that indicated that his mother Mariah Vanosdol was the daughter of Oakley Van Osdol. Thus I would conclude that this Test ancestor was named by his mother as Oakley V. Test.

The family history of Mariah Vanosdol indicates the following:

Oakley Van Arsdale was born 12/22/1757 in Franklin Twp., Somerset Co., N.J. and died 7/7/1849 in Clermont Co., Ohio. He was the son of Ouke Van Arsdale and Marya Van Cleef. He married Mary South in New Jersey. She was born 10/8/1761 in New Jersey and died about 5/27/1804 in New Jersey. Oakley Van Arsdale "changed his name in writing" to Oakley Van Osdol.

Mariah, the mother of O.V. Test is listed in this set of records as Maria Van Osdol. She had a sister named Keziah Van Osdol. O.V. and Maria had a daughter who often had her name misspelled, and I now am convinced that her name was Keziah Test.

O.V. Test can be traced back to his grandfather William Test of Clermont Co., Ohio, but we are not sure of the parents of William Test. Any descendant of O.V. Test who is interested in membership in the DAR can obtain that through the wife of O.V. Test. Her father, Oakley Van Arsdale (Van Osdol) was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in Captain James Debolo's company, Colonel Nixon's N.J. regiment in 1776. In 1777 he was a private in William Wycoff's Company. In 1835 he applied for a Revolutionary War Pension.

Oakley and Maria had a son named James who was born in Ohio and then has been difficult to find. Last week I located him in the 1900 census of Nebraska. The listing is for Summit Township, Butler County. James S. Test born September 1850 age 49 married 20 years born Ohio farmer. Wife Angeline born June 1857 married 20 years age 42 mother of 6 with 4 living she born in Illinois. Son Ray A. Test born 2/1881 in Illionis. Daughter Mabel born June 1888 in Nebraska. Son Arthur born 1/1890 in Nebraska. Daughter Vivian A. born 8/1896 in Nebraska.

The deceased children must be Ralph born 1855 and George born 1888. If both were deceased by 1900 it is unlikely we will find descendants.

If this family is still in Nebraska in 1910 it might be hard to find them since there is no 1910 Soundex for Nebraska.
