Death of Leroy Test

Died Saturday about 5 P.M. at his home in the east part of town. Leory S. Test aged 55 years, The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon at 2 P.M/ from the Methodist Church with services by W.H. McGhee, assisted by Rev. W.A. Haynes and interment in city cemetary.

Something like two or more years ago his health began to fail, the nature of the ailment being indicated by the development of goitre, or enlargement of the thyroid glands, located near the windpipe, known as Grave's disease. Later the malady increased until about a month ago he became unable to leave his room, and death resulted in heart failure. induced by the nervous condition always a marked feature in such cases.

In September, 1907, he went to Kansas and Colorado seeking to restore his health by change of climate. He returned to Illinois last year much improved, yet far from being a well man. But he kept on at his work until about four weeks ago, when the old disease, with new complications attacked him anew, and Saturday afternoon the worn and suffering body found rest and the spirit went home to the God who gave it.

Leroy S. Test was born in Brown County O. January 10, 1855, the son of O.V. Test and Lucy M Test. In early life he came to Illinois with his parents who lived for awhile on South Prarie, Pike County, and later removed to the Marden chaple neighborhood. For many years heengaged in farming, but sixteen years ago moved to Mt. Sterling.

He was united in marriage to Miss Clara M. Upchurch, his now bereft widow, January 20 1877. To them were born seven children, four of whom died in infancy. viz: Ruby, Earl, Dwight and Irwin, and one daughter Pearl went home to our Father's house October 18 1906, in the bright noon of beautiful and useful woomanhood. Ellsworth of Englewood, Colorado and Opal, still at home are left to cherish in sacred memory the virtues of a loving father.

Surviving brothers and sisters of the deceased are: William L. Test of Pike county, Lank Test of Sterling public schools, Mrs A.E. Morrell of Meadville, Mo. Mrs Nora Elledge, Mrs Dan Buckley and Mrs Sylvester Newenham.

Deceased was converted in the summer of 1877 and united with the M.E. church and lived and died in that fellowship. Taken from the Mt. Sterling Democrat Wednesday, February 10, 1909.
